Eriksen sums up Man Utd dressing room feelings after Crystal Palace humiliation

Christian Eriksen claimed "everyone could have done better" as the Manchester United players shouldered the blame for their hammering at Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils shipped four times at Selhurst Park as the Eagles completed a double over the struggling outfit. United fell behind early on to a Michael Olise strike and never managed to grab a foothold in the game as they endured another heavy defeat.

Erik ten Hag's side need a late season run to ensure they make the European spots but the players failed to produce on the road once again. Eriksen was part of the midfield as the team was picked amid a succession of injury problems.

Their list of absentees has been highlighted throughout the season but the Dane was keen to note that their injury issues cannot be used as a constant excuse with the players simply unable to step up when it mattered.

He told the BBC: "A big disappointment. We just had an off-day and we weren't in it. It is what it is. We can't really change the injury things. We have to do what we can on the pitch to change it. Today it didn't matter who we played.

"Everyone could have done better. I don't know what the conclusion is for how it went. We weren't good enough. We tried to do what we could but we were not good enough. We'll take the blame as players."

United haven't won an away game in the league since beating Luton Town in February. In the five trips since then they've lost on three occasions with the Red Devils now facing the prospect of finishing the year with a negative goal difference - which has never happened in the Premier League era.

Ten Hag is under pressure to find results in the final weeks as his position remains uncertain, especially with Sir Jim Ratcliffe making sweeping changes at Old Trafford. The Dutchman said after their latest setback: "It's clear and obvious this is under-performing. We should have kept fighting like the fans did.

"It was not correct, making big mistakes, not following the plan, the script and the rules we have. Of course, also individual mistakes, but then we should cover each other, and we didn't do. We let each other down and you get the worst defeat."
