Erling Haaland to Real Madrid transfer takes twist with £130m bid now imminent

Real Madrid are ready to make a £130million move during this summer transfer window after re-electing Florentino Perez as their president and welcoming Jose Mourinho back to the club

Enrique Riquelme has lost the Real Madrid presidential election after promising to sign Erling Haaland. Florentino Perez won the popular vote and pledged to make a club-record transfer offer of at least £130 million, so he will now need to look elsewhere to sign his next 'Galactico' with Bayern's Michael Olise topping the list of reported targets.

Riquelme initially claimed Haaland "has a release clause and would like to join Real Madrid ", declaring that "if I become president, he will play for Real Madrid." Manchester City insisted the stories were "untrue", explaining "there is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause to enable it".

They added: "We are considering legal action for the use of our player image in this context." Haaland's father, Alf-Inge, and his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, said in a joint statement: "All very entertaining but not true."

Perez said before his re-election that Haaland is not the name he has in mind for their planned £130million-plus offer. The president said: "On Tuesday or so, I'm going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a great player.

"It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history." He added: "[Michael] Olise is a great player, but it's not Olise. It's not Doku either.

"We're going to make a significant offer, at least around 150m. He needs to be a player from midfield who can go forward. And it's not Haaland.

"The player is not from the Premier League. And the first thing we'll do is talk to the club. It's a signing meant to generate excitement because that's what it's all about, generating excitement."

Perez also ruled out it being Harry Kane. However, despite doing the same for his Bayern Munich team-mate Olise, it is reportedly the France international who Madrid will make an offer for this week.

The German champions are adamant that Olise is not for sale, though. Their president, Herbert Hainer, has spoken to BILD in response to reports of an imminent bid from Madrid this summer.

He said: "Michael Olise is an FC Bayern Munich player who still has a long contract - and we are not a selling club. If Florentino Perez wants to send us an offer – which has not been the case so far – he can save himself."

Their honorary president, Uli Hoeness, has also said of Madrid's returning head coach Jose Mourinho : "He can cast five eyes on Olise, he can't get it. It remains unsellable."

Bayern board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge shares a similar stance. He says: "For a player like Olise, there is no price tag that would make us twitch."
