Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra checked Graeme Souness's drink after a clash between the pair led the ex-Liverpool boss to fire off a lengthy rant about a VAR decision on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool already held the lead in the Premier League clash at Anfield when Roberto Firmino crashed an eye-catching strike into the United net โ only for a review using video technology to rule out the goal for a foul by Reds defender Virgil van Dijk on visiting goalkeeper David de Gea.
In a confrontation over the incident, Evra told Souness: 'It's a foul. With his head he's touching De Gea's arm.'
The typically forthright former Liverpool boss turned to his fellow Sky Sports pundit and retorted: 'Can I ask you a question? How much fairer could van Dijk have gone for that ball?'
When Evra responded by saying that Van Dijk had not been competing for the ball, Souness embarked on a lengthy argument that left the former United defender checking his glass of water for alcohol.
While his irate neighbour gesticulated, Evra picked up the drink and suggested that Souness, who is known for his vehement views, was the worse for wear.
Souness was baffled by the decision produced by the much-maligned use of technology, insisting: 'He's never looked at the goalkeeper.
'He's got eyes only for the ball and if your starting position is that a goalkeeper cannot be touched, then that's a foul but that's not the rule. He's gone for it as fairly as he possibly could.
'Under no circumstances is that a foul. If you're talking about VAR as some sort of magnificent computer that's perfect in every way, it's human error and they don't know what they're doing, that's the bottom line.
'It's laughable. How much more honest could he be in his challenge?'
Souness, who won the top flight title five times as a player with Liverpool between 1978 and 1984, watched his former side move closer to breaking out the champagne with a 2-0 win over United at Anfield.
Evra won the league the same number of times with United between 2008 and 2014, but fans of his former club could be forgiven for drowning their sorrows after a result that left them fifth in the Premier League, 30 points behind their opponents.

Vvd was standing at his place and jumped, de gea jumped towards him, touched the ball but canโt hold his ball... maybe lack of practice holding balls due to lack of balls caused the lack of that ability

In my opinion, this should not have been awarded a foul. Having said that, it should also be pointed out that in such a circumstance, the on field referee should be checking with VAR just to confirm and make the right decision. It was disappointing that he was hesitant to do so until the Man Utd players had to crowd around him and pressurise him to check the replays.
