Como head coach Fàbregas spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the team's historic 9-1 away win over Lens in the Champions League. He said he was proud of his players' performance but unhappy about the goal they conceded, and stressed that this victory is only the beginning of Como's Champions League campaign.
Fàbregas said: "Yes, we have written our name in history. It was an unforgettable night for the fans and the club. Everything went our way, but we must keep moving forward, because we have a very important match on Sunday."
Como's next match is an away game against defending champions Internazionale in Serie A. Of that fixture, Fàbregas said: "It's right to enjoy this moment, because this team deserves it all. But football moves very fast. I've already told the players that we must turn the page on the Lens match. Now we only need to think about Internazionale."
"We will play a very difficult match at their stadium, and it will be a huge test physically and mentally. We don't have much time to prepare, but we must be as ready as possible. Our goal is to go to Milan and show who we really are. This will be our ninth match between two international breaks, and we must try to play well and then move on."
On the 9-1 scoreline, Fàbregas admitted that the result exceeded everyone's expectations: "No one could have imagined 9-1. A score like that rarely happens in football, perhaps only once in a lifetime. I am proud of the players, and the match statistics were excellent too, but our Champions League journey has only just begun, and we have played just four matches so far."
Finally, Fàbregas assessed the team's performance on the pitch: "We played well against Lens. There was some sloppiness in the first five minutes of the second half, but otherwise we handled both attack and defense well. However, the goal we conceded made me very angry. We made three substitutions, which led to some changes in defense, and Aguilar, who scored that spectacular goal, used to be my teammate."
