The FA are investigating after a coin was thrown at Jesse Lingard by Arsenal fans during Manchester United's FA Cup win at the Emirates on Friday night.

The incident happened after Lingard stepped into a row between teammate Marcus Rashford and Sead Kolasinac on the touchline towards the end of United's 3-1 victory in the fourth round.

Players from both sides waded in and Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi confronted Lingard who then became involved in a brief exchange with some of the Arsenal supporters nearby.

A coin appeared to be thrown towards the England international which was picked up by United captain Ashley Young who tweeted later: 'Heads we win, tails you lose'.

However, the FA are not prepared to make light of the incident and have launched an investigation under Rule E20.

It follows an incident in Arsenal's Carabao Cup tie against rivals Tottenham at the Emirates last month when Spurs star Dele Alli was hit by a plastic bottle.

The FA have asked Arsenal for their observations of the Lingard incident and will work with the club to identify the culprit.

They can also take disciplinary against the club if they feel that not enough was done to prevent the situation.
