The Red Devils boss was pleased with the application of his side as they edged out the Foxes, but acknowledges that they still need to do better
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased to see Manchester United battle their way to a 1-0 win over Leicester, but admits he will not be getting “too excited” about one positive result.
He told BBC Sport: “We hung in there. It was the first time this season where we have had to defend for large periods.
“We have dominated the other games but today we saw a team that could defend in their own half.
“They are a good side who want to get into the top four. To keep a clean sheet is great but let's not get too excited because we know we can play better. We defended as a proper team.”
“We have a big squad and it is just about getting them ready for when they are needed,” Solskjaer said.
“They were needed when we were struggling and they did well.”
While pleased to give minutes to academy graduates, Solskjaer was also delighted to see Harry Maguire put in a solid performance against his former club.
The United boss added on the England international centre-half: “When you play against strikers like Jamie Vardy, you have to concentrate because if you mis-time your run, he is in behind you and I thought Harry did well.”
Maguire was taking in a first meeting with Leicester since completing a record-breaking £80 million ($100m) summer move to Old Trafford.
There were plenty of familiar faces for him to catch up with on Saturday, but the 26-year-old was pleased to play his part in helping new employers to a welcome three points.
Maguire said: “It was tough playing against Jamie [Vardy]. I've played with him for two years and he is a top player who can terrorise defences when he is on his game.
“We knew it was important to get the win, especially after the international break.
“We have to build on a solid base and we want to keep clean sheets, especially at Old Trafford. We are always going to score goals with the attacking talent we have.
“We could have kept the ball better but we defended well. The boys who came in looked sharp and fit and a big well done to them.
“We have games coming thick and fast and I'm sure the manager will utilise the squad, so be patient and take you chance when you get it.”

He shouldn't be. The goal came from a soft penalty decision. Nothing convincing to show or talk about rtom open play. lucky win.

Solskjaer not 'too excited' you should know what Man Utd's problem is... go and get quality players. Your squad are very young to compete for championship

Where is that michael owen? Didnt he say man utd wouldnt win? I hope he eats his own words for tonight's dinner!
Well with his predictions, we can always be sure that the opposite will happen😁😁.

Yup. The best thing about kids is that they are very eager to prove and improve themselves. Give them room for mistakes and they will learn from it with the right guidance. A few years from now, man utd will be challenging for the title. It took klopp and pep at least 2 seasons to mount a proper challenge. Given man utd crisis, it would be against all odds if Ole can challenge for the title from next season. I believe in him. I think we are 3-4 signings away from it. A right wing, a holding midfield, attacking midfield and an experienced striker perhaps.

why should we,we are also disappointed because a penalty isn't a win

Didn't you watch the match? After Chong was Introduced, he got on some good runs and moves mata could not do. We should start trying him in the RW position. Even lampard's youngsters have gone from strength to strength having less experience
Ole should give Gomes, Greenwood & Chong more playing time. More play time better players .

I would say we should have played Greenwood and Gomes.. We are lacking in front and middle Ole should look in to.. Still long way to go we need to dominate position and score more goals to be in top 4.. Rashford should find out his role in which position he should play.. I should say he is more of a winger than striker. He should talk with the coach and stick to that position where he fit in. Hopefully Ole will do the needful. Lest hope for the best. Glory glory man United as the Reds go marching on...

Why we dont play Fred and McTominay in the middle and Pogba as a No.10? And with Martial as No.9 we will be scoring 2-3 goals per game easy.
Thank you bro you have sense, play Martial as a number 9 and Pogba as a no. 10 and then start Fred and Scott in midfield, James on left wing and Rashy on the right, like this we could go on to win many more games

I understand you are saying that bcos of abraham form but you do realise your team has conceeded 11 after 5 games. That is an ave of 2 per game. That was evident in the preseason and it hasn't changed. Next match against Liverpool, I expect you guys to score some and conceed some. I hope it is a 3:3. Goals galore always suits the neutrals besides you guys will lose points. 😁

I expect we get a senior striker and a CM in Jan. A few injuries and we are packing the benches with youngsters. That is expected in the Leicester games. We are missing key players in key position. Martial, pogba, Shaw. At least the players are learning how to grind out a win when not playing well or missing regulars. It's not a good performance but nevertheless a good learning opportunity.

I just think the absence of regulars like Pogba, Martial & Lingard shouldn't make the players who started today to put too much pressure on themselves in terms of maintaining the standard performance, Matic looked to be a lil bit clumsy, we couldn't switch on counters we usually do, Rashford was evidently lost without Pogba & Co. this was a hard-fought win but I'll be best if we take positives out of it and take go to West Ham with the spirit. one game at a time UNITED. ❤👹
