Fans on social media have called for Tottenham full-back Emerson Royal to be sold after his 'disgusting' red card in the North London derby.

The Brazilian defender was dismissed midway through the second half after catching Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli with a high challenge. Referee Anthony Taylor reached straight for his pocket without the need for VAR's intervention.

And Spurs fans have not held back with their brutal opinions on the incident, with some labelling Royal as a 'disgrace'.

Royal was dismissed in the 62nd minute after catching Martinelli studs-up on the thigh. It proved to be a crucial moment in the game as the Gunners cemented their lead with another goal soon after, through Granit Xhaka, before running out 3-1 winners.

Fans were not afraid to let their fury known, with one user writing: 'That's the dumbest red card I've seen in a while. Emerson Royal is an idiot.'

Another fan demanded: 'Get Emerson out of this club. Disgrace'. While another said, 'absolutely disgusting tackle. Shocking.'

The right-back has had a turbulent time since moving to North London but has established himself as the starting right-back in Antonio Conte's side this season.

Fans also took aim at Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after his howler gave the hosts a golden opportunity to go 2-1 up, which was taken by Gabriel Jesus.

The French World Cup winning goalkeeper somehow dropped the ball after a Bukayo Saka strike from inside the box right into the path of a waiting Gabriel Jesus, who tapped home from just a yard out to put his side back in front.

Fans took to Twitter to add insult to injury, with one user writing: 'I think we all agree Lloris is one of the most overrated keepers in the world.'

Another added: 'Can’t believe how shocking that was from Lloris, throwing it away in a huge game. So f****** costly.'

The Gunners took the lead in the game through Thomas Partey, who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner after 20 minutes.

Harry Kane equalised shortly after with a well-taken penalty. The effort saw him become the leading goalscorer in London derbies - overtaking Thierry Henry's record.

Mikel Arteta's side took the lead in the second-half thanks to Gabriel Jesus before Royal's dismissal. Ghanit Xhaka rounded off the scoring with a thunderous strike just five minutes later.
