When he scored the opening goal for Italy against Austria on Saturday, Federico Chiesa was following in his father's footsteps by scoring at a European Championship.
Enrico Chiesa, Federico's father, scored at Euro 1996 and they are now the first father and son to have both scored in the competition.
Like father...
In 1996, Enrico was a Sampdoria player and scored on the counter attack against the Czech Republic in Liverpool.
It was one of seven goals he scored in 22 caps for Italy. His son already has 29 caps at just 23-years-old, scoring twice.
Federico Chiesa came through the ranks at Fiorentina, where his father also played for several years, and completed four full senior seasons before being signed by Juventus in a deal that could be worth up to 60 million euros.
In 2020/21, his first season at Juve, the young winger scored 14 goals in 43 matches, including three against Porto in the Champions League last 16 tie which the Old Lady lost on away goals.
...like son
On Saturday at Wembley - curiously, in England once again for the Chiesa family - Federico scored the opening goal in extra time for Italy against Austria.
Chiesa did well to take down Leonardo Spinazzola's cross, avoid the attentions of Konrad Laimer and blast past Daniel Bachmann on the half-volley.
In doing so, everything came full circle and the Chiesa family made a new piece of footballing history.
