After Ronaldo left the Portugal national team training camp on Wednesday, many people spoke out in his defense in the following hours. Rio Ferdinand also defended Ronaldo on social media, calling for more respect for him from the public.
Ferdinand played with Ronaldo at Manchester United between 2003 and 2009. He posted a video discussing the achievements of the Portugal captain, adding in the caption: "Long live Ronaldo! Please respect Ronaldo."
In the video, Ferdinand said: "What level was the Portugal team at before Ronaldo? What did they achieve? Could they even qualify for major tournament finals? It slightly annoys me that many people judge him based on his performance in the last three or four years. Regardless of which league he played in, his statistics at his age are still remarkable."

I have supported Ronaldo since 2006 or 2008 till now but if I were him, I honestly wouldn't care as long as we don't lose the match! if they win WC, c'mon I'm still in the team at least! there's no need for all that when you know you don't have the same energy like 20 years ago! We know someone has to let Ronaldo show what he can do when he was young and full of energy! So why bother when young ones who have more energy are given chances? I don't like that ego thing because my God Jesus doesn't like that!
