Fiorentina 1-1 Juventus: Old Lady drop points as Mandragora & Kostic score

A stunning Rolando Mandragora strike ensured Fiorentina stayed unbeaten under Paolo Vanoli, but they are still winless in Serie A this season after a 1-1 draw at home to Juventus, who themselves are yet to suffer defeat under Luciano Spalletti.

Match Report

Just a third away win of 2025/26 was the aim for Juve coming into this clash, but their first chance to work towards achieving that was taken away from them 15 minutes in.

Frustratingly for them, a VAR review determined that Dusan Vlahovic had not been fouled in the area by Pablo Mari, after referee Daniele Doveri had initially awarded a penalty.

In turn, it took 25 minutes for either side to register a strike, with Viola frontman Moise Kean cutting inside for the home side and hammering an effort against his former club’s crossbar.

Not to be outdone in the ‘vengeful ex’ department by his teammate, Mandragora then went agonisingly close with a free-kick, before Vlahovic was played through on goal and rounded David de Gea. Under pressure from the recovering Viola defence, he could only send his shot into the side netting, but it was only a reprieve for Fiorentina.

Deep into added time, a cross from the right was cleared to Filip Kostic, and from 25 yards out, the Serbian powered a low shot into the bottom corner of De Gea’s net.

But anything Kostic could do, Mandragora could do better – three minutes after the restart, the midfielder set himself from even further out, and rifled an effort into the top corner of the Juve net, giving Michele Di Gregorio no chance.

Screamers were clearly en vogue at Stadio Artemio Franchi, as before the hour mark Manuel Locatelli, Kenan Yıldız and Kean had all brought the best out of the goalkeepers from outside the area.

Juventus were looking the more likely to find a winner as the match crept towards its final 15 minutes, but Fabio Miretti hitting the side netting, alongside Francisco Conceicao’s strike from wide – which was comfortably saved – was the best they produced, until De Gea reacted well to tip Weston McKennie’s header over the bar.

That save meant Juventus have now won just two of their last 13 across all competitions, while Fiorentina have gone two league matches without defeat for the first time since the opening two rounds of the season.
