Trophyless in 2020, Barcelona have been dealt a huge financial blow following the COVID-19 outbreak and are currently in need of a monetary boost, one which they may get should they decide offload certain players in January.
The management committee, currently in charge of the club until the elections, can neither sign nor offload any player without the permission of the new board.
However, what the current directors could do would be to negotiate the departures of certain players and give the new board the chance to sign off on some deals that would give the club a much-needed financial injection.
These are the five players that Barcelona could sell in January to raise money.
Ousmane Dembele
His numerous injuries since he set foot in Barcelona have not helped Dembele find the consistency he needs in order to shine for the Blaugrana.
The Catalans have already attempted to offload him in recent transfer windows and they could do so in January if they decide that they have ran out of patience with the Frenchman.
Transfermarkt value him at 50 million euros, which would be a welcome money injection if Barcelona find potential suitors.
Samuel Umtiti
Another injury-prone player, Umtiti does not seem to be part of Koeman's plans despite the latest shift in formation from a back four to a back three and Gerard Pique's lengthy injury.
According to Transfermarkt, his current value is set at just 12m euros.
But, taking into account that Barcelona released Luis Suarez on a free last summer, any profit would be welcome by the new board.
Riqui Puig
Labelled as one of Barcelona's most exciting prodigies, Puig has hardly been given any playing time this season under Koeman.
Despite having played a total of 78 minutes across five games in LaLiga Santander and Champions League, the Blaugrana academy product has already attracted interest ahead of the winter transfer window.
Valued at 20m euros as per Transfermarkt, Barcelona could opt to loan Puig out in January, but selling him with a re-purchase clause should not be ruled out taking into account the club's financial struggles.
Junior Firpo
The Spain U21 international was considered as an heir to Jordi Alba upon his move from Real Betis back in 2019.
However, Firpo has not managed to convince with his performances when he was given the opportunity to step in for Alba.
With his current market value set at 14m euros, Barcelona could try to cash in on the Spanish left-back as soon as this January.
Carles Alena
The La Masia product could see the exit door this winter as he has hardly been given playing time this season due to the congestion in Barcelona's midfield.
Transfermarkt has set his price tag at 18m euros, although it seems it would be impossible to get this money in the current situation.
