Manchester United will take on French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais in a pre-season friendly in Edinburgh this summer, marking the first time in 13 years that the Reds have played in Scotland.

The match will be played at BT Murrayfield, Edinburgh, on 19 July, providing fans with a rare opportunity to watch football in the iconic home of Scottish rugby.

The high-quality French opposition will be a valuable test for Erik ten Hag's team as they step up their preparation for the 2023/24 season, with a four-game tour of the US to follow immediately after the stop in Scotland.

It will be only the fifth meeting with Olympique Lyonnais in the club's history, and the first since the pair met in the 2008 UEFA Champions League Round of 16, when United won 2-1 on aggregate before going on to beat Chelsea in the final in Moscow. The club's last game in Scotland was a Champions League group-stage meeting with Rangers in 2010.

Manchester United Football Director, John Murtough, said:

“Whilst as a club we have a great historical links to Scotland, this will be the first time we've played at BT Murrayfield, and we're really looking forward to performing in front of our Scottish fans in what will be a great occasion in a world-class sporting venue.

“This is an important competitive match for our squad as we commence our preparations for the season ahead. With a 14.00 BST kick-off during the school holidays, we hope many families and young fans from all over Scotland and the UK will be able to travel to the game.”

Tickets for this match go on pre-sale to fans who have pre-registered and Manchester United Season Ticket Holders, Official Members and Executive Club Members from 18.00 BST on 16 May, before going on general sale from 12.00 BST on 18 May.
