Axed Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann was only informed of his stunning departure last night while on a skiing holiday in Austria, according to reports in Germany.
The Bundesliga giants are set to appoint Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena in his stead, with the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain manager ready to start work on Monday.
Bayern Munich, who have won the last 10 Bundesliga titles in a row, currently lie second in the league table, one point behind rivals Borussia Dortmund.
With Bayern still in the title race and Champions League, having comprehensively beaten PSG 3-0 on aggregate to advance to the quarter-finals, news of Nagelsmann's departure came as a major shock - to fans and the manager himself.
According to German outlet Bild, the 35-year-old was skiing in the Austrian Zillertal on Thursday evening when he was informed of the sacking.
Nagelsmann won 60 of his 84 games in charge of the club (71.4 per cent), having joined the club in July 2021, claiming one Bundesliga trophy and two German Super Cups during his tenure.
His perfect record in the Champions League this campaign - eight win from eight games - did not save him either.
Eager for a clean slate ahead of crucial fixtures against Dortmund, Freiburg (DFB Cup) and Manchester City (Champions League), Bayern felt a change in management would better protect their chances of winning the treble.
Ready to arrive at the club on Monday, Tuchel is set to take over midway through the international break, a period often used by clubs to appoint new managers.
Following his bitter exit from Bayern, Nagelsmann could emerge an early contender to take over at Tottenham - should Daniel Levy axe under-pressure manager Antonio Conte ahead of his expiring deal this summer.
Ex-Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara has already urged his old club to sign the manager, tweeting on Thursday that Spurs should get 'straight on the phone'.
After Bayern suffered defeat at Bayer Leverkusen, Nagelsmann ripped into his players for having 'zero per cent work rate'.
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also labelled them 'lazy, like I've never experienced' after their title-race blow.
