Man United fall from second to SIXTH in Forbes' list of most valuable teams

Manchester United have tumbled four spots down to sixth in the list of Forbes' most valuable sports teams in the world.

They are now behind Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who remain third and fourth on the list.

NFL outfit Dallas Cowboys have retained their place at the top of the pile for the fourth successive year with a value of £4billion ($5bn).

Baseball side New York Yankees are second on £3.7bn ($4.6bn) with basketball team New York Knicks worth £3.22bn ($4bn) in fifth place.

Real Madrid are worth £3.4bn ($4.24bn) and Barcelona are behind them on £3.2bn ($4.02bn).

Madrid have surged back to the top after benefiting from winning their third consecutive Champions League in 2018 and the cash flow which followed.

The Spanish giants are also understood to be on the verge of signing the most lucrative kit deal in football history by agreeing a fresh £1.4bn ($1.8bn) deal with Adidas over the next 12 years.

Manchester United's value is now at £3.07bn ($3.81bn).

The information is collected based on several factors, including sponsorship deals and media and broadcasting rights.

United have missed out on the cash injection of the Champions League this season, after finishing the 2018-19 campaign poorly and failing to secure a top four finish. 

Last season's finalists, Tottenham and Liverpool, scooped between £83m ($104m) and £94m ($117m) for their all-English showdown in Madrid. 

Five other football clubs make the top 50, including Bayern Munich (17th), Manchester City (25th), Chelsea (32nd), Arsenal (42nd) and Liverpool (45th).
