Former Irish Premiership striker Lee Duffy has spoken of the horror of being struck down by coronavirus.
Duffy, who played in Northern Ireland’s top flight with Warrenpoint Town, claims he spent eight days “hooked up to oxygen”, not knowing if he would live before eventually pulling through.
The forward was a fit and healthy 28-year-old before contracting Covid-19 and says his shocking experience is a warning to everyone be careful and take the virus seriously.
Duffy, who also played in the Republic of Ireland for Wexford, Shelbourne and Drogheda before joining Warrenpoint in January 2019, said on twitter: “As some of you may or may not know, I spent eight days in hospital hooked up to oxygen as I could no longer breathe on my own, scared and not knowing what was going to happen.
“Luckily I got through it and I’m starting to feel a lot better now.
“My advice to anybody is not to take this lightly. It’s very serious.”
Warrenpoint said in a statement: “Our former player Lee Duffy has spoken out on his Covid-19 virus and thankfully he is on the mend.
Duffy left Warrenpoint last summer to join Newry City in the Irish Championship and his former club hope he will continue to get better.
“He’s in our thoughts and we pray for his continued recovery.
“Lee is a fit, 28-year-old. It attacks all ages.”

Football and coronavirus are like Lingard and Van Dijk. One wants to come forward and entertain the world and the other is just blocking it off.
U dont have to make jokes abt this using other human beings. Make use of ur brain!

When it reaches that stage of you needing oxygen, it's a real fight for life or death comes knocking. The worrisome part.
How do you actually know that have you got the virus or know someone who has it?

Exactly people are wrong saying it’s only young and old at risk, 28 yo professional athlete in his prime hospitalized , more evidence that we all need to take this seriously
