Former Chelsea assistant: Lacroix was poor at the World Cup; sell Enzo if he wants to leave

In an interview with BOYLE SPORTS, former Chelsea player and assistant coach Jody Morris expressed dissatisfaction with Lacroix's performance at the World Cup and believes the defender must improve significantly to succeed at Chelsea.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed to pay a transfer fee of approximately £52 million for Lacroix, and the French international is expected to sign a six-year contract in West London.

Jody Morris, who served as Frank Lampard's assistant coach at Chelsea from 2019 to 2021, said: "I think Lacroix played well in Crystal Palace's back-three system last year, but playing for Crystal Palace and playing for Chelsea are two different things."

"I don't think he played well for France. I told my friends I'd love to see how he performs in a back-four system, as I've only seen him play in a back three. He played very poorly against Spain, and I didn't think he was great against England either—they conceded six goals in that game. If we really sign him, I hope he doesn't always play like that."

Regarding potential player departures from Chelsea, Morris suggested that if Enzo continues to seek a move this summer, Chelsea should Cash in on him sooner rather than later. Enzo has repeatedly expressed doubts about his future at Chelsea in recent months while also showing interest in Real Madrid. Those comments led to a two-match suspension in April. However, Chelsea are reportedly still unwilling to let Enzo leave unless they receive a hefty offer of £120 million.

Morris stated: "If someone doesn't want to pay that price for a player, then he stays. Enzo was one of the few Chelsea players last season who could earn a passing grade, and there weren't many who did."

"My consistent stance is: if someone doesn't want to stay at the club, let him go. Letting him go doesn't mean letting him leave cheaply. If someone doesn't want to stay at Chelsea, I'd rather they leave, regardless of their performance or how much you like the player. I think most coaches or managers would have the same view. Owners would be different because they have to consider value for money."

Morris believes Enzo's performance at the World Cup could give Chelsea an opportunity to recoup most of the £107 million they paid for him in 2023.
