Former Manchester United star Nicky Butt admitted that he has avoided watching the Piers Morgan interview with Cristiano Ronaldo because it is 'sad'.
In a two-part conversation between Ronaldo and Morgan which aired on TalkTV this week, the 37-year-old criticised the club, Erik ten Hag, the Glazers, as well as Butt's former teammate and colleague at Salford City, Gary Neville. The Portuguese star claimed that he felt 'disrespected' and 'betrayed' by United since returning in 2021.
While members of his family have watched the interview, Butt told MEN Sport that he wished to avoid watching it. "Honestly I haven't watched it, I'm not ducking [the question] but I will tell you what I think," the 47-year-old said.
"I haven't watched it because I do not particularly want to watch it. I think it is sad that a great club like Man United and an unbelievable player like Ronaldo can't come together and sort it out like they should do with respect, respect from both sides that is, shake hands and then if he is going to move on, move on.
"When I see it, hear about it or watch it, my son was in the house the other day watching it, I couldn't watch it because I think it is really sad, really sad that a player of that ilk, who has so much admiration from Manchester United fans, would do an interview like that. But I also feel sad that a massive club like Manchester United can't sit a player down and find a way through this crap that is going on.
"Some of the stuff Ronaldo has said might be valid but I can't look at that and say that he was right to do it because I don't think anyone could say that."
Earlier today, the Reds issued a statement saying that they were looking at 'appropriate steps' to discipline Ronaldo for the interview. The Manchester Evening News understands that United are currently weighing up the possibility of sacking Ronaldo for breach of contract.

everyone knows the truth and a player of cr7 caliber deserves no such treatment. Maybe ten hag wanted to use Ronaldo to show how ruthless he could be but he failed woefully. as a good coach you should know how to manage your big players and make them happy. how can you not start your biggest star in big matches and wanting to bring him on with 3 mins remaining, it's really pathetic. he (ten hag) even went to the media and said that Ronaldo refused to come on and said he'd deal with him whereas he could have avoided to say that. most of his comments about Ronaldo are negative ones and that gave Ronaldo some bad reputation but no ones wants to blame ten hag and only criticizing Ronaldo. how can a player who scored lots of goals last season suddenly doesn't know how to score? he made everyone, including the players believe that Man united play better without Ronaldo. can you tell me how man goals rashford had scored compared to the elite strikers. the coach could have played in a pattern that will contain Ronaldo and he will score goals but he chose not to. he (ten hag) started by saying Ronaldo missed pre season and that's why he's not playing but he signed Antony and put his straight in the starting line up against Arsenal. there's only bad news about him on the media and I guess he got fed up and wanted clear his head by revealing the truth. ten hag wanted to show how ruthless he could be but he messed with the wrong player.
