Gary Lineker makes Steven Gerrard points amid Liverpool and Man City title race

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has come up with a scenario where Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard help Liverpool to win the Premier League title.

Villa have five Premier League games left this season, with the last of those seeing Gerrard 's team travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City on May 22. It's a game that could be crucial in the title race.

Pep Guardiola's side currently sit at the top of the table, one point clear of Liverpool in second place. Both teams have won four and drawn one of their last five games in a race that looks to be going down to the wire.

Gerrard spent nearly all of his playing career at Liverpool, but failed to win the league with the club, despite going close. But the final game of the season could see the former Reds' midfielder help out his old team.

"The last four fixtures for both Man City and Liverpool, and looking at the way these two teams are playing it's hard to see them dropping points," Lineker said on Match of the Day.

"There are difficult ones in there, Man City away at Wolves and West Ham, but look at that one at the end. Aston Villa vs Man City, could Steven Gerrard win the league for Liverpool?"

"I wonder if he's still registered to play?" Asked pundit Danny Murphy, another former Liverpool player.

"He might run on when someone's through with the ball and tackle,"Lineker joked. "We'll see, it's very exciting."

But before Villa take on Man City, they face Liverpool at Villa Park on Tuesday, 10 May. That will be another game in which Gerrard's team could have a big say on where the Premier League trophy ends up at the end of the season - but one where he could spark Merseyside title misery all over again.
