Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher question Matthijs de Ligt

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville questioned Matthijs de Ligt's actions in the incident which led to a Liverpool penalty against the Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim's side were much-improved in their showdown against the league leaders and took a shock lead just after half time.

But the Reds responded with Cody Gakpo's strike before they were gifted the chance to take the lead from the spot. Referee Michael Oliver pointed for a spot-kick after an on-field review following De Ligt's handball.

And Neville questioned why the Dutch defender had his hands in a raised position in the first place.

'I think he could be in trouble,' he said on Sky Sports. 'When your arm's up there. If your arm's high like that in the box you're asking for big trouble. I don't know why his hand is there.

'That's the one where you don't get away with it and he's not going to get away with it.'

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher who was also on commentary duty for th game concurred, adding: 'He's actually turning away.'
