Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini was happy for Lorenzo Pellegrini after he proved the matchwinner in victory against Lazio today.
Axed as club captain and encouraged to find himself a new club last summer, Pellegrini struck the only goal of the game on Sunday.
Afterwards, Gasperini said: "Luckily, I've been able to watch the training sessions. Pellegrini has trained very well in recent weeks, and I had no hesitation in starting him today because he's a talented player.
"I'm happy for him, the club, and the fans. I was very satisfied with the performance up until the man advantage, when we risked compromising a game we'd played well."
On Pellegrini, Gasperini said: "Pellegrini has the ability to shoot very well, with excellent timing when running forward, but that shouldn't be his trademark: he needs to play as a midfielder with the ability to score goals. We can do better with the attackers, helping them develop.
"(Evan) Ferguson and (Matias) Soulé played excellent games, as did (Artem) Dovbyk when he came on. Based on their growth, we'll raise the performance level, and this also applies to the wingers and defenders. We need to improve our attacking side."
The coach added, "I can't talk about his past, I found a mature lad and a quality player. He has heart, like most of us. It's not that he put in more effort because he's from Rome, he's a strong player, and if he becomes an athlete, his level will greatly improve."
