Gazzetta dello Sport: Barcelona's revenue tops €1 billion, but net debt remains at €1.6 billion

Revenue is growing, but the financial burden remains heavy. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Barcelona's net financial debt stands at €1.6 billion, and the club's future hinges on the new Spotify Camp Nou.

After a run of 11 consecutive wins, Barcelona lost to PSG in the Champions League and Real Madrid in El Clásico. However, the club's most important battle is taking place off the pitch, where it is currently one large construction site. Some 3,000 workers are rushing to complete the Spotify Camp Nou, which will become Europe's largest stadium, with a capacity of 105,000. Meanwhile, the club's management is also trying to restore the financial balance disrupted by years of lavish spending and risky operations.

The difference is that, while cranes keep rising into the Catalan sky, debt continues to grow. Barcelona has just surpassed €1 billion in annual revenue for the first time, joining Real Madrid as the only two clubs to have reached that milestone. But the club is still losing money. Is Barcelona still the "sick man" of European football? Five years after Joan Laporta returned to the presidency, the answer is more complicated than the numbers suggest.
