VAR once again had a major influence at the Women's World Cup as Germany beat Nigeria 3-0 to reach the last eight.
Alexandra Popp's 20th-minute headed goal was allowed to stand by referee Yoshimi Yamashita after she deemed Svenja Huth was not interfering in play while in an offside position.
Then, following another VAR check, she awarded a penalty having ruled Evelyn Nwabuoku had fouled Lina Magull.
Sara Dabritz converted from the spot and Lea Schuller fired in a late third following Nigeria's own mistake.
Either Sweden or Canada stand between the two-time winners and a place in the semi-finals.

These ladies lack confidence. They were defeated before the game started. The psychologists keep failing to deliver.

I knew it, we narrowly escape through the window, it will still not favor us. African nations generally are not good enough for international events, just like the men. We don't have what it takes to compete and we'll never have. Why don't we concentrate on continental events and forget about international competitions. What is the pride? What is the glory? To be beaten black and blue or be cheated by these white men each time they saw a black man. It is better we resign and do our things the African ways.
