Portuguese club Gondomar SC has expressed its deep sorrow following the tragic deaths of former players Diogo Jota and his brother André in a car accident.

In a heartfelt statement on their official channels, the club wrote:

“O Gondomar Sport Clube está profundamente entristecido com a notícia do falecimento de Diogo Jota, formado no nosso clube, e do seu irmão André.

Enviamos as mais sinceras condolências à família e a todos os que os amavam.

Descansem em paz.”

This translates to:

“Gondomar Sport Clube is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Diogo Jota, an academy graduate of our club, and his brother André.

We send our sincerest condolences to their family and all who loved them.

Rest in peace.”

Diogo Jota, who began his football journey in Gondomar’s academy, went on to become one of Portugal’s brightest talents. The Liverpool forward’s professional career took him from Paços de Ferreira to Atlético de Madrid, FC Porto, Wolves, and ultimately to Anfield, where he became a key figure under Jürgen Klopp.

His younger brother André also played for Gondomar during his career, further strengthening the family’s ties to the club.

Gondomar’s tribute follows an outpouring of grief from across the football world, with messages from Atlético de Madrid, Pepe, and many others. The loss of the Jota brothers has left Portuguese football in mourning.
