Grealish reveals Guardiola gave Man City 'more of an urge' to win UEFA Super Cup

Pep Guardiola made clear the importance of Wednesday's European Super Cup final to his Manchester City stars as they added another trophy to their growing cabinet.

Guardiola became the second-most decorated manager of all time, behind Sir Alex Ferguson, with the penalty shootout victory over Europa League winners Sevilla.

And Jack Grealish revealed that the City boss demanded they lift more silverware before he went level with Carlo Ancelotti in winning four Super Cups.

'It was unbelievable,' Grealish said. 'The manager made it so clear to us before the game how much he wants this trophy.

'You want to win everything anyway but that gave us more of an urge. It was a brilliant feeling.

'Over the last 10 or 15 years this club has been so successful, they've won so many Premier Leagues, FA Cups, Carabao Cups. We've been waiting for this. To add another one to the collection. This is what I came here to do.'

City struggled to impose their game on the Spaniards and were indebted to academy product Cole Palmer's equaliser as the winger starred again.

Grealish - who insisted there will be no celebrations ahead of Newcastle United on Saturday - added: 'Cole was brilliant. That's what you have to do as a young lad. I was in that position at (Aston) Villa.

'You have to perform when given the chance and he's done that. He's such a nice kid, I'm so happy for him. We'll be straight into recovery and then back to the Premier League.
