Greenwood breaks his silence after scoring his first goal for Getafe

Mason Greenwood has spoken for the first time since breaking his goalscoring duck for Spanish side Getafe at the weekend.

The on-loan Manchester United forward helped his current team earn a 2-2 draw at LaLiga rivals Celta Vigo on Sunday by tapping home from close-range to put the visitors 2-1 ahead on 33 minutes.

His effort had cancelled out Borja Mayoral's early opener, but Celta twice hit back through Jonathan Bamba and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Domingos Duarte's first-half dismissal for two yellow-card offences had left Getafe with 10 men but they held on for a point as they now sit 11th with 10 points from nine matches..

Greenwood's goal came in his fifth match for the Madrid-based outfit and he took to Instagram on Monday to express his emotions.

'Happy to score my first goal for Getafe,' he wrote earlier.

'Amazing team spirit to come away from the game with a point.'

The 22-year-old's post has so far collated over 1.3million likes on the social media platform too.

Greenwood made the switch to Spain on transfer deadline day after it was announced in August that he would continue his career away from Manchester United.

Greenwood was suspended by Red Devils last year over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online and faced charges including attempted rape and assault but the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February this year that the case had been discontinued.

The academy graduate scored 35 goals in 129 matches for United, with his last appearance coming against West Ham on January 22, 2022.

Greenwood, who has won one cap for England, is contracted at Old Trafford until June 2025, with the deal including an option to extend by a further year.
