Antoine Griezmann sarcastically said that the European Cup would have to be more important than the World Cup if a Frenchman doesn't win the Ballon d'Or.
The Atletico Madrid striker won the Europa League and the World Cup with France but Luka Modric is expected to lift the top individual prize organised by France Football.
"I am in my country where I am happy to be, it is a good night and I want to enjoy it," said Griezmann.
"We will see the votes, it is good to be here and it is a shame that not everyone is here but for me it is important.
"It would be a shame if a Frenchman doesn't win it, maybe the Champions League is more important than the World Cup but we will see."
