Viktor Gyokeres is fearing that his move to Arsenal could still fall through, should it fall through, he's making plans for how he can leave Sporting Lisbon this summer
Viktor Gyokeres will look to secure a loan deal late in the transfer window, with claims that talks between Sporting and Arsenal have reached an impasse. The Sweden international has made it clear that he wishes to join the Gunners this summer, and has no intention of playing for his current side again.
Manchester United have been credited with an interest previously, but Arsenal have long been in pole position to land his signature. Sporting director Andrea Berta was in Portugal to try and strike an agreement, but Record claim that negotiators have now left Lisbon with the two clubs still wide apart in their valuations.
A deal now being completed will rely on one of the two sides finally making a compromise, with reports in Portugal suggesting Arsenal are again willing to walk away from negotiations.
And it is said that Gyokeres and his representatives are now fearing the worst that a deal may not be completed. Should it not become a reality, he'll look to fix up a loan move to a fellow European club, with the striker adamant that he will not appear for Sporting again.
That is the same move that Victor Osimhen opted for last summer when there was no resolution to his future. It became clear that he was surplus to requirements at Napoli and the Nigerian headed to Turkey to play with Galatasaray for the season, where he was prolific.
Reports in The Sun claim that Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce are among those keeping tabs on the Swede in case Gyokeres needs a loan move this summer. Juventus have also been monitoring the situation.
Arsenal want to add a No.9 this summer and have turned their attention from Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko to Gyokeres, after scoring an staggering 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting since August 2023.
Arsenal remain locked in talks with his club, who want their asking price of £60m up front with £8m in add-ons to follow that. Personal terms are already in place on a five-year-deal and the add-ons in the deal relate to goal and trophy bonuses.
Gyokeres has, it's claimed, told the Portuguese club that he will never play for them again in an attempt to push the deal through. He will also boycott pre-season training after clashing with the team's hierarchy. Sporting players returned on Monday, but Gyokeres has been given extra days off to fix up a move away.
This anger stems from a belief that the Portuguese champions have gone against a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ to allow him to leave this summer for around £60m, despite his current contract running until 2028, but club bosses claim that was never the case and they want to retain their top talent.

Has it crossed the mind of Sporting why there is no such intensive competition for their priced asset among top European clubs? Is it not an indication that Gyokerres may not be as ‘hot’ as Sporting thinks given the league he plays in, not to talk of his age?

Sporting thinks it holds all the cards and may be it does because there is nothing Arsenal can do if Sporting refuses to sell. But we have seen situations when clubs frustrated the transfer of players only to regret same because the players’ performances fell apart and their market values plummeted. Hope we are not heading that direction in the Gyokerres case. It happens when average clubs look at one player as the gateway to all their fortunes and success.

in the past, players who desperately want to leave their clubs for greener pastures dont usually do good an are shipped out after two seasons, hope this isnt the case for gyokeres, why would he claim he doesnt want to play for sporting no more when he is still under contract

Where we are now only Gyokeres will get us out,we must pay the asking price and reap the rewards from the business,we cannot buy a simple striker while Gyokeres is the solution, three seasons second place in a row must come to an end,our opponents will feel how serious we are only when we sign Gyokeres, please my team,my club,my hope,do it for us,get him for us so we see the Henry way at our club

Arsenal can be so damn annoying during the off season. They spend 105 million for Declan Rice but won't spend the 60 million plus 8 million add ons for a striker that we really need.

🚨𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗟: Reports from Portugal confirm that Arsenal reached a full agreement to sign Viktor Gyökeres on Sunday evening, with a fee of around £71M. The club's representatives flew back to London on Monday morning to pursue additional transfers. Despite the Gyökeres deal being finalized, media focus has shifted due to Arsenal’s PR team prioritizing the unveiling of Christian Nørgaard. Although Nørgaard's move was sealed a week ago, the club is now spotlighting his signing, creating uncertainty around the Gyökeres situation. As a result, updates on Gyökeres are expected to go quiet for a few days, though reliable sources from Sporting CP maintain that the striker is already an Arsenal player. The Gyökeres updates and news are likely to resurface over the weekend. Meanwhile, Nørgaard is set to be officially unveiled before Saturday, having completed his medical and media duties today at the Sobha Realty Training Centre. Expect more updates on Norgaard in the coming days.
