Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, having reportedly made a new offer for the 27-year-old worth almost £70million

Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly willing to sacrifice a significant amount of his wages in order to get his dream move to Arsenal. The Gunners are closing in on a move for Gyokeres, who has scored 97 goals in 102 games since joining Sporting Lisbon back in 2023.

New sporting director Andrea Berta has championed Gyokeres ahead of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with the 27-year-old making it clear that he wants to make the move to the Emirates.

And according to a new report from Portuguese outlet Record, Gyokeres has even decided to forego €2million (£1.7m) from the five-year deal he had agreed with Arsenal so they can up their bid.

The report states that Arsenal have made a new offer to Sporting worth an initial €65m (£56m) plus €15m (£13m) in add-ons, with the bid said to have been made possible by Gyokeres' decision.

Arsenal have signed two new players so far this summer as Mikel Arteta hopes to guide the club to their first Premier League title since 2004, having finished second for the past three seasons.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined from Chelsea to act as backup to David Raya, while midfielder Martin Zubimendi has made a big money move from Real Sociedad and the Spain international is seen as a key part of Arteta's plans.

"Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team," Arteta said after the deal was confirmed on Sunday. "He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us.

"The standard he has consistently performed at over the last few seasons for both club and country is exactly why we are so excited to have him with us. We all welcome Martin and his family to the club."

And Zubimendi is confident Arsenal will be a "good fit", adding: "Once I made the decision to leave, I set my sights on Arsenal because I think their style of play is a good fit for me. It;s a young, highly motivated and ambitious team.

"They have shown their potential recently, and I believe the best is yet to come. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are. Andrea and Mikel took excellent care of me, leaving me with no doubts whatsoever.

"This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for; one I wanted to make. Of course, it's a big change, but I'm ready to get started."
