Haaland up against his father's past and his love for Manchester City

Manchester City take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night in what will be a special night for one player in particular.

Erling Haaland grew up supporting the Citizens after his father, Alf-Inge, played for the club.

"Erling is a fan of Leeds, City and Nottingham Forest, the teams I played for," said Alf-Inge Haaland.

"He would like to play in the Premier League, but I don't know if or when that will happen."

Alf-Inge played for City between 2000 and 2003, making 41 appearances and scoring three goals.

However, his career was unfortunately cut short at the age of 30 after a horrific tackle by Roy Keane which shattered his knee.

The comparison between himself and his son is quite startling, as the Dortmund No.9 boasts 49 goals in 50 games for the German giants, but it will be very difficult for the club to keep hold of their star man in the summer.

A recent photo of Erling Haaland wearing a Manchester City shirt when he was younger has gone viral, prompting a potential move to the Etihad Stadium, with a figure of 150 million euros having been mentioned.

Haaland has smashed multiple records this season in the Champions League and has scored already 10 goals this season in the competition.

The 20-year-old has also become the first player to have scored two or more goals in four consecutive Champions League games.

The match against City will be his Champions League quarter-final debut and it will be a tough match, as Pep Guardiola's team will be looking to make the most of the home advantage.

"I understand that people talk about Haaland. He is a fantastic forward, but it is not appropriate to talk about him," Guardiola said.

"All I can say is that he is an exceptional forward for his age. The numbers speak for themselves."
