The Haitian team will wear national team jerseys emblazoned with the Polish flag during their upcoming FIFA World Cup journey.
Details of the Haitian National Team jersey
This is not a design error, but a symbol of the century-long deep friendship between the two nations. In 1802, Napoleon sent thousands of Polish legionnaires to Haiti to suppress a local slave uprising. However, many Polish soldiers refused to fight against the Haitians who were fighting for freedom and instead joined the Haitian side, fighting together against the French army.
After Haiti gained independence in 1804, Haiti's first head of state, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, granted Polish people Haitian citizenship and referred to them as "Black Europeans" in the constitution, expressing his high respect for them.
Although more than 200 years have passed, Haiti has never forgotten the support of the Poles. Today, Haiti is printing the Polish flag on its official FIFA World Cup jerseys to commemorate the history of fighting side-by-side for freedom.
