Hamann: Bayern almost helpless without Olise;they are too reliant on him

Some within Bayern Munich criticized Olise for his red card, but Hamann believes the directness of external criticism was harsh.

"When I hear players come out and say it was a lack of discipline, my alarm bells ring," Hamann wrote in his Sky Sports column. The 53-year-old former international also offered a pointed observation: "I have a feeling that some people were just waiting to criticize him because there's little else to attack him for."

Hamann understands the external criticism of the red card: "An action like Olise's clearly shouldn't happen."

However, he believes that given his performance over the past two seasons, Olise is one of the few players who can afford to make such a mistake.

Hamann also believes Olise's frustration played a role in the incident, as the attacking player is often subjected to rough treatment by opponents.

The former Bayern Munich player, though, emphasizes Bayern's problematic over-reliance on Olise. Bayern's failure to hold onto a 3-2 lead against Viking Stavanger after Olise's red card exposed the team's quality issues.

Olise's importance concerns Hamann

"What worries me most is that Bayern are almost helpless without Olise," Hamann emphasized. The Frenchman is currently a key player in Bayern's attack. "If Olise can't break down a defensive setup like that, no one can," he said, assessing Bayern's attacking options.

"It's nothing new for big teams to rely on their best players. But I feel that Bayern's reliance on Olise is even greater than other top teams' reliance on their respective stars," Hamann continued.
