Barcelona are poised to appoint Hansi Flick as their new manager this week, as they seek to put a bow on the Xavi Hernandez era. President Joan Laporta will no doubt be hoping it’s a fresh start for the club, but it also opens new scenarios with the players.
As per Sport, one of those players is Joao Felix. The Portuguese forward has had another disappointing season in La Liga, and while he finished with double figures for goals, and showed sparks, was ultimately benched due to his poor performances

Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that Felix’s future will hinge on the new manager at Barcelona, but his agent Jorge Mendes is pushing for another loan move to the Blaugrana, according to the Catalan daily. They say that Felix remains firm on his desire not to play in Saudi Arabia, Atletico Madrid do not want him back, and Sporting Director Deco and President Joan Laporta still believe he can be useful.
They go on to point out that Xavi Hernandez did not want Felix, but was forced to work with him anyway, and it is not clear how much power Flick will wield when it comes to squad planning this summer. Felix is not a player that excites Flick, but if he gives the green light, then Felix could be back for a second year at Barcelona.
Felix will be 25 years old next season, and is still yet to show his talent for more than a few consecutive months in Spain. His defensive work-rate remains the least impressive for the Barcelona forward line, and if Flick is pursuing a similar 4-2-3-1 system that he has used in the past, then the number 10 position is the most fitting for the Portuguese. Yet Flick has based his sides off a high press, and that is the precise area in which Felix struggles most.
