Harry Kane was taken off against Bournemouth after suffering an ankle injury

Tottenham supporters will be hoping the ankle injury that forced Harry Kane off against Bournemouth is not a recurrence of the ankle ligament damage he suffered in March 2017.

The England striker has had a number of issues with his right ankle in the past and last season in the FA Cup he suffered ligament damage seven minutes into the 6-0 quarter-final win over Millwall causing him to spend four weeks out.

It was an injury that first came to light for Kane in September 2016 when, after scoring the only goal of the game, he twisted his ankle in the win over Sunderland.

Injury against Sunderland ruled Kane out for six weeks and with Tottenham in a fierce battle to finish in the top four, an injury to their prized asset may prove devastating.

With England boss Gareth Southgate looking to build a team around Kane for the upcoming World Cup, the Spurs star now appears unlikely to play any part in the imminent friendlies against Holland and Italy.

Southgate will name his squad for the friendlies on Thursday.

Kane is the current joint top scorer in the Premier League with Liverpool's Mo Salah but injury at Bournemouth could seriously damage his hopes of another Golden Boot.

The Spurs striker looked to have equalised in the first half but his effort was adjudged to have come from an offside position and it was chalked off.

But more worryingly for Spurs was witnessing their prized asset remain sat on the turf as he clutched at his right ankle having collided with Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as he fired home.

The striker is often bullish and rarely makes a great deal of challenges but the collision with Begovic left him in distress and despite the best efforts of the medical team, he was withdrawn from the action.

As Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino prepared to bring on Argentine Erik Lamela to replace the injured striker, Kane was escorted straight down the Bournemouth tunnel and he launched a bottle in frustration at his early departure.
