Harry Maguire transfer: Man United make enquiry for defender as Leicester braced for bid

Manchester United have told Leicester they want £65million-rated England World Cup hero Harry Maguire.

And the Foxes defender is confident he will be on his way to Old Trafford before the deadline - in time to line up against his current team on the season’s opening night on August 10.

Leicester’s player of the season had an outstanding summer in Russia and is only one year into a five-year deal after signing from Hull for £17m last summer.

Leicester are willing to make him one of the club’s top earners on over £100,000-a-week but he is known to be ambitious and will be tempted by a lucrative move to a club to challenge for honours.

Top clubs like United and Manchester City were already tracking him prior to his superb displays for Gareth Southgate’s England.

City boss Pep Guardiola even commended Maguire on the pitch after he shone in a League Cup tie between the two clubs last season.

The Red Devils want another centre-back despite having Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo.

United boss Jose Mourinho wants to get ball-playing stopper Maguire to improve his defensive options after selling Daley Blind.

United feel Maguire could also be easier to purchase than Spurs Toby Alderweireld as Tottenham have refused to sell a single player to United since 2008 when they bought Dimitar Berbatov.
