Arsenal news as Mikel Arteta may have to re-jig his squad for the Gunners' first Premier League game back from the international break
Four games into the new Premier League season and so much has been learnt at Arsenal already. Each fixture has provided a different challenge, with none of the Gunners' opening four opponents rolling over easily.
On paper, it has been an easy start to the season. Three of their opponents are all predicted to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League, with Manchester United's visit to the Emirates Stadium prior to the international break providing the toughest test yet.
The game, on paper, should be a comfortable one for Arsenal to make it four wins from five. No team can win the Premier League title in September, but many teams face the possibility of chasing the leading pack as a result of dropping points early on - something Arteta will be keen not to do.
Last week's 3-1 win over Man United has left a positive feeling around the Emirates Stadium and optimism that they can continue their unbeaten start to the campaign at Everton is ever-lasting. However, as many will know, trips to the blue side of Merseyside have not been successful ones in the past.
Arsenal have not won at Goodison Park since October 2017, a 5-2 win under Arsene Wenger. Six games have passed since then and the Gunners have picked up only one point from a possible 18 - scoring two goals.
Much has been said of how Arsenal are lining up this season with the Spaniard's tactical tweaking coming under scrutiny. The international break has already provided a serious headache for the Arsenal boss in Gabriel Magalhaes, but there could be a new role for one.
Around him, there do not need to be any changes. Aaron Ramsdale is still Arsenal's No.1 with William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko expected to take up their roles at left centre-back and left-back respectively.
Alternatively, Arteta could move White back into centre-back and play Tomiyasu out wide. Jakub Kiwior will also fancy his chances to partner Saliba, too.
The Portuguese has registered two assists and won a penalty in the last two games for Arsenal and some have called for the youngster to be handed an opportunity from the start. The pivot of Declan Rice with Martin Odegaard making late runs into the box is a blueprint that cannot be ignored, leaving only one slot in the midfield trio up for grabs.
In attack, the question mark remains over which centre-forward Arteta will select against Everton. Both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah offer something different and there's certainly a fair argument for both to play from the off.
Jesus' first goal of the season against United was the perfect sign-off for his return from injury although Nketiah has been instrumental in the Gunners' first four games of the season. However, after spending a week with the England national team, the Hale Ender has not put a foot wrong to be dropped and his impressive physical transformation over the last few months could work in their favour.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are the two best options out wide and are not expected to be rotated. However, with PSV on Wednesday, Arteta may decide to hand a start to Leandro Trossard.
Of course, Arsenal's selection depends on any international stars returning without any injuries. With the current injuries considered - Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Magalhaes and Mohamed Elneny - the Gunners are more than strong enough to beat Everton.
Arsenal XI: Ramsdale; White, Tomiyasu, Saliba, Zinchenko; Rice, Vieira, Odegaard; Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah.
