Hazard tied with Messi and Sancho for assists... despite PFA omission

Eden Hazard has been left out of the PFA Team of the Year despite a remarkable campaign that sees him at the top of Europe's assist charts.

The Belgian has recorded 13 Premier League assists this season - with only Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Lionel Messi of Barcelona matching that number in their respective domestic divisions.

Hazard has also contributed 16 goals, meaning his 29 total goal contributions is the highest of all Premier League players this season  - with only Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling, both on 27, coming close.

If he scores in one of Chelsea's remaining games against Manchester United, Watford or Leicester, Hazard will break his scoring record for a single Premier League campaign.

Hazard was left out of the annual PFA Team of the Year in favour of Aguero, Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling, while Liverpool stars Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, plus Tottenham's Son Heung-min were also absent.

The selected team featured four Liverpool stars, six Manchester City players and Paul Pogba of Manchester United.

With Ederson in goal, team-mate Aymeric Laporte plus Anfield trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson completed the defence. Fernandinho, Paul Pogba and Bernardo Silva were the midfield trio behind a strikeforce of Sterling, Sane and Aguero.

There continues to be heavy interest in Hazard's future from elsewhere with Real Madrid lining up a move for the playmaker, who has one year left on his current contract.
