Martin Schoots has told Tottenham Hotspur to forget about talks over a new contract for Christian Eriksen until the end of the season amid rumours that the Dane is a target for Real Madrid.
His current deal runs until 2020 and unless Spurs can agree an extension with the playmaker in 2019, he will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs from the start of January, 2020.
Across north London, Aaron Ramsey recently agreed a free transfer to join Juventus in the summer once his contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season.
Eriksen is one of the most important players in Mauricio Pochettino's team. He plays the role of the primary playmaker but also works hard off the ball.
That has caught the eye of Europe's top clubs, with the 27-year-old eyed as a player who would upgrade the midfield options of most managers in the game.
However, that is not to say that Spurs stand not chance of keeping their cheif creator.
With Pochettino having guided the club into the Premier League title race, and a 3-0 lead over Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League round of 16 tie, games are coming thick and fast for the Denmark international.
According to his representative, the midfielder wants leave discussions over his future to the summer while he works hard on maintaining his form.
"Christian only wants to focus himself on football," Schoots told ESPN .
"Besides his technical, tactical and athletic skills, also this attitude has contributed over the years to his impressive transformation from world class talent to world class player.
"At this moment I would prefer not to join the speculations about contracts and transfers."

I don't even know who we'd replace him with no matter the transfer fee. No one of his quality is around or available to us.
I’d agree there is no player that is of eriksen’s quality, but there are plenty of young attacking midfielders that look like something to be special in the futute. I think we should sign that Havertz kid from leverkusen if he leaves, which I don’t want to happen anyway

Eriksen is one of my best favourite player in Spurs so I don't want him to move but if he wants to be great among other footballers he must find another team that he will win something with it

I think most players (apart from Eriksen and Toby) are content staying at the club as long as we’re in the CL and they’re getting paid reasonably well (which they are). If in a couple of seasons we’re still at the same level and haven’t progressed then Kane and Dele will probably leave. I think that Spurs will be Jan’s last club before he returns to Ajax in his twilight years and Hugo may even retire at the club. The other players in the team will stay as long as we have CL I think and as long as we still want them.

He didn't sign in the summer even after Pochettino turned down Madrid, so he clearly isn't basing his next move only on that. He may be after more money, or he may be after following in Laudrup's footsteps and playing for one of the two biggest teams in the world.

Waiting until final say about Pochetino's future, no doubt.

Its quite well known that he has a career trajectory in his career plan. Its not about money, its basically whether Madrid or barcelona come knocking in the summer. Mainly madrid, hopefully they pick up eden and eriksen is not required. Then id be more than hopeful he stays, eriksen sign da ting!

surely Madrid would want to try and sign him, come to think of it, even Barca could use him as Coutinho hasn't been useful as CM

he'll be 27 by the end of the season, he has one big move in him. A move to Madrid makes sense if he wants to win stuff before he retires

Eriksen is an amazing player, who'll fit right in Madrid's team, but let's be honest - they've got enough young midfielders atm, it's better for them to get as much minutes as possible.

Eriksen has always wanted Barca I think. If that's off the cards I wouldn't be surprised if he does sign a new deal. He's an unusual character.
