For years Xavi reigned supreme at the Nou Camp, feted for his passing range and accuracy and the part it played in Barcelona's dominance.

But the midfielder left Catalonia for pastures new in 2015 and the La Liga giants have desperately sought a replacement who boasts similar guile and ingenuity.

On Wednesday evening, however, Barca fans went wild as they believed Xavi's successor had finally come to the fore.

Athur Melo joined Barca last summer and the 22-year-old has been quietly enhancing his reputation.

And one slick pass to put Ivan Rakitic through on goal against Sevilla on Wednesday night had supporters waxing lyrical about the Brazilian.

Arthur picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and slotted a pinpoint pass along the floor through the Sevilla defence before Rakitic burst into the box to latch onto it.

Such was the quality of the pass, the Croatian needed just the slightest of touches to poke it home and double Barcelona's lead to 2-0.

'Arthur Melo really is Xavi 2.0,' said one Twitter user. 'He really just took out 8 Sevilla players with ONE PASS. An unreal assist.'

Another said: 'Xavi has been resurrected as a 21 year old masking himself with the name Arthur. There's no other way to it.'

Ernesto Valverde's men eventually went on to win the Copa del Rey clash 6-1 in a goal-laden affair – but Arthur's pass arguably stole the show.
