Major League Soccer seems set to secure the services of Heung-min Son with the South Korean star reportedly close to finalizing his move to Los Angeles FC. The 33-year-old will join an illustrious list of big name international players who have pulled on the famous ‘black & gold’ jersey such as Carlos Vela, Gareth Bale, Giorgio Chiellini, Hugo Lloris, and Olivier Giroud.

The LA based side are confident of completing the transfer of the left winger and attacking midfielder, as his contract with Tottenham expires in mid-2026, and this is a perfect opportunity to sell him for a significant financial gain. According to Tom Bogert and Ben Jacobs for GiveMeSport, Son still has talks pending with Thomas Frank, the London club’s new manager, to try and understand his value and his role within the squad.

The South Korean striker is currently in the middle of the London club’s preseason tour, which is taking place in Asia. For this reason, and due to contractual commitments for the upcoming Spurs friendly against Newcastle United in South Korea, Son has yet to make a decision, although he is attracted to the idea of playing in the United States.

Tottenham have also accepted that the relationship with their legendary number ‘7’ may have come to an end and despite being interested in him seeing out his term in North London, the club’s hierarchy also respect Son’s decision to leave for the MLS.

Points in favor of LAFC

According to LA bases AS USA sources, club general manager John Torrington traveled directly to lead negotiations with the Spurs and the South Korean striker.

Another interesting aspect is that the Black & Gold could offer him a Designated Player contract, a move that would guarantee him a high salary in the North American league. Furthermore, the fact that Hugo Lloris is part of the roster could also motivate the 33-year-old, as they were teammates for many years at Spurs with LAFC remaining confident that they will secure the signing of the South Korean.
