Sections of Chelsea’s dressing room have been left confused by Liam Rosenior’s instructions and are losing faith in their manager, Daily Mail Sport understands.
Sources have disclosed that a growing group of players claim they do not understand what their under pressure boss is asking them to do, with the issue exacerbated by a tendency to change plans during matches.
The 41-year-old, who was only appointed in January, is under serious pressure following a run of five consecutive league defeats without a goal being scored, and it remains to be seen whether he will be in charge for this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley.
With fans incandescent following Tuesday night’s abject 3-0 thumping at Brighton, Rosenior launched a stinging attack on his players.
‘Unacceptable in attitude,’ he said. ‘I keep coming out and defending the players – that’s indefensible.
‘That performance tonight, the manner of the goals we conceded, the amount of duels that we lost, the lack of intensity in the team. Something needs to change drastically right now.’
However, sources claim there is no issue with attitude and that the real problem lies in a breakdown in communication between the manager and the players.
‘Liam is a really nice guy and everyone wants him to succeed,’ one insider explained. ‘But the reality of the situation is that a lot of the players are struggling to figure out what he wants from them.
'He’s intense and he overloads them with information, he does a lot of individual work on top of what he does with the group. It’s difficult for them to follow and it makes things worse when he changes those instructions during games.
'Everyone is frustrated and they know that results should be better but they don’t feel like they understand what is being asked from them and they don’t feel like that situation is going to change.’
Chelsea are seventh, seven points adrift of Liverpool, in fifth, who have a game in hand.
Should co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali pull the trigger, they will find themselves seeking their fourth manager of the season.
Following the latest setback, Rosenior added: ‘The professionalism wasn't there. It's a really difficult night. The most difficult night not even just here, so far, at this magnificent football club, but in my career.
‘Some of the things I witnessed today, I never want to see again.’
The defeat was a seventh loss in eight games across all competitions, with Chelsea having won only one of those outings, against League One Port Vale.
Some have sympathy for former Hull City boss Rosenior, who was headed to Stamford Bridge from Strasbourg, who share the same ownership.
They point out that the Londoner had little choice other than to accept the job and that none of the players he has been tasked with working with were brought to the club on his watch.

if it were on just possession alone Chelsea would be winning the title but possession do not score goals moving the ball quickly and progressively does

Crazy that Chelsea have invested around 1.5 billion pounds in their squad only to have Pedro Neto and Delap as the starting attackers in their last game.

Mistake of Chelsea players are only interested to outdo each other with the quirky octopus tentacles like hairdos,, afraid to ruffle them, should get someone like Daniel Pasarella to stop these fanciful imitators

It would be another season without Champions league football.Watching Chelsea last night was sheer tragedy;the team was totally in disarray. There was no spark anywhere. Where would the goals come from? With the FA Cup semi final against Leeds UTD looming large, one can't but feel sorry for Chelsea.
It's alright bro; no bad blood...

they don't understand? but they once went on 6 games winning run with comeback against Napoli and Westham? Give the manager a break, you could clearly see in the last 5 PL games (except brighton) that tactics, possession or chances hasn't been the issues. It's down to the players.
If you observed, some of the players had issues or were unhappy when Maresca was sacked. I saw it clearly in Neto who has never played well since then. Others tried to do their job until PSG game. Then, others decided to come out. Lots of comments were expressed by some key players like Enzo and Cucu. Issues were not handled properly and the coach has now lost the dressing room. I knew after the PSG first game and the matters arising that, it will be difficult for Chelsea to come back and truly everything is broken now. Coaches should know that their job is to motivate and instruct the players to die for them on the pitch as seen in Klopp. But to be honest the coach is not good and does trial and error. One champions league game against a smaller team, Chelsea was winning comfortably and in managing the game, introduced more defenders to have 7 or 8 defenders on the pitch and the team struggled and gave out lots of chances with possession tilting against them heavily for the remaining minutes. And other issues. He could have learnt on the job but unfortunately he forgot and became full of himself.

I don't see English teams sabotage a coach, but from what I saw on Tuesday's night regarding the body language of some of the players, I now have to think twice.

By taking the chelsea job, Rosenior was trying to show some braveness and confidence-but unfortunately, that wasnt brave and confident enough. I think the best way to show that braveness and confidence would have been to say NO to the contract in the first place. REALLY UNFORTUNATE!

So Chelsea expects to win with Delap as the main striker. Lets be honest its easy to blame the coach but is the coach responsible for all those misplaced passes, for losing duels, for being overpowered

Chelsea problem is basically low spirits due to psychological responses to management embarrassment of sacking of coach Mascaras . The present coach simply inherited the problems @ the wrong time. Management should stop signing juvenile players and sign experienced capable players and coaches to overcome the problems. it's logical solutions.

For clarity Rosenior was asking Cucurela to mark Neto and asking Sanchez to score the decisive goal that explains his expectation from the players.

Stupid Chelsea gave him a 5 and a half year contract on£12 a season basic He has over 5 years left. They owe millions to coaches and can’t afford to oust him. £60 plus it would cost. Go to Chelsea and get rich quick, that’s what coaches do.

Even Rosenior will not hire himself if Chelsea were to be his personal business. He knows he's not up to that standard yet. But Egbahli and his BlueCo crew doesn't care !! I love how the players are making them look stupid every day by day. Rubbish
