Edison Azcona has revealed that, in a bid to protect Lionel Messi from injury, Inter Miami “don’t let him play” in some training matches.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The MLS outfit are delighted to have the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner on board, and saw him inspire them to a historic Leagues Cup triumph within weeks of his arrival in the United States. He has, however, also suffered a knock that prevented him from figuring in the U.S. Open Cup final and a late push for a playoff berth.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Inter Miami are aware of the need to handle Messi with care, with Azcona telling Infobae of how the all-time great is treated behind the scenes: “Everyone understands that we are not going to try to hurt him. One tries to defend, but they are a little more careful. We don't let him play in the games we play among ourselves, we defend him, but with caution. Nobody gets into it very hard.”
WHAT THEY SAID
It is not just in training that Inter Miami stars are changing their ways for Messi, with Dominican Republic international Azcona revealing that a number of players are learning a new language. He added: “I have not heard Leo speak English... Sometimes, he has said 'good morning' when he comes in, but those who speak English and do not know Spanish are learning to speak Spanish.”
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Messi has hit 11 goals for Inter Miami through 14 appearances and will not be heading out on loan in January – amid talk of a return to Barcelona – as he seeks to ensure that he is in peak condition for the start of the 2024 MLS campaign.

And the support, protection and aided assistance for this privileged player continues, and without any shame. This brings to question would this player have been as successful as he was without it.

He is lucky to have had an easy life. A lot influenced this kind of easy life. One is the fact that he appeared almost like a dwarf in Barca who helped him with growth hormone. Secondly, he found himself in a Barca team with the best midfielders around him and a period where Barca bribed Refs to win major honours. This tells why he has struggled to excel individually since leaving Barca. Of course, it is arguable that the world Cup was influenced in his favour. Now news of team mates giving him space and less tackles. MLS as a whole, obviously towed this line. This is why the debate about Ronaldo who wasn't lucky enough to receive all these protection, extra medication, best players around him, referee favours, love, and still managed to succeed wherever he went (mind you at an older age). Till tomorrow, many will still call Ronaldo the GOAT. He achieved this against all odds. Messi achieved his with all the help.

Lets talk about the fact that you are relying so much on goals scored to say he's the best, when we hasn't even won the most award for goals scored ie. golden boots. It is sad that the one thing you are saying he is good at, someone else has been awarded more for it [Crylaugh]. sad.

Sherlock Indeed Thay don't know about the league, they just talk anyhow
Imagine playing in a league where no matter how badly you preform you don’t get relegated. Only in “not a real league” can that happen. Not enough interest in Soccer ⚽️ both in viewership or playing it, in America’s world of: Football 🏈 Basketball 🏀 Baseball ⚾️ Hockey 🏒 and even College Football 🏈 and other sports, that’s a lot of sports way above what they call Soccer here.

To get those treatments, first of all, you have to be the best. Growing up in Barca Academy doesn't mean he is lucky but has to work like hell to be in the first 11 because there were many great players in Barcelona otherwise the coach would bench him like Ronaldo during the World Cup. To play in a good league, they have to be world-class players, to play in the best club, they have to be the best among the world-class players, to get treatment like Messi they have to be the greatest. By the way, where and when did you see Argentina bribing during the World Cup? Only girls and g*a*ys like you claim Ronaldo is better than Messi[Crylaugh]
