Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and naturally with that comes a desire to bring as much talent to Old Trafford as possible both at youth and senior level.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a first team squad packed with talent, especially after the acquisitions of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho this summer.
The Red Devils have thus taken the opportunity to send a number of players out on loan who would not have received game time in 2021/22 had they stayed.
This could be either to simply get rid of wages off the books, or to aid the development of a younger player.
Wales international Daniel James has left the club on a permanent basis for Leeds United, having dropped down the pecking order, but all of the other departures this summer, apart from the expiration of contracts, have been on loan.
How many players do Man Utd have out on loan?
Between players in the first team and in the reserves/youth sides, Man Utd currently have 13 players out on loan.
Where is each Man Utd player on loan?
Andreas Pereira - Flamengo
Facundo Pellistri - Alaves
James Garner - Nottingham Forest
Axel Tuanzebe - Aston Villa
Brandon Williams - Norwich
Tahith Chong - Birmingham
Youth:
Nathan Bishop - Mansfield Town
Dylan Levitt - Dundee Utd
Ethan Laird - Swansea
Will Fish - Stockport County
D'Mani Mellor - Salford City
Ethan Galbraith - Doncaster
Di'Shon Bernard - Hull
How are they performing?
Andreas Pereira was on loan at Lazio last season is not part of the club's plans again this campaign as he has returned to Brazil with Flamengo until June.
He couldn't have hoped for a better debut, either, as he came off the bench for a nine-minute cameo in a 4-0 victory against Santos in which he got on the scoresheet in his short time on the pitch. He has since played 17 more times for the club, scoring three in total and recording one assist.
In January of 2021, Facundo Pellistri went on loan to Alaves and has returned to the Spanish side for the full of the season in 2021/22. So far, he has made 24 appearances for the club, and failed to score.
Highly-rated midfielder James Garner spent last season on loan at Watford and, after that was terminated, Nottingham Forest for the last six months of the season.
He has again returned to Forest for the new campaign after signing a new contract with Man Utd. He is already a popular figure with his loan side as in February he scored against arch rivals, Derby. This season he has appeared 13 times in all competitions, though is yet to score or assist.
Axel Tuanzebe has put in some impressive performances for the Man Utd first team, no more so than away against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
He is clearly not trusted by Solskjaer, though, and campaigned to leave for more game time after the arrival of Varane. He has made nine appearances for Aston Villa so far in his loan, and is part of a side that is currently struggling through a run of five defeats in a row in the league which led to the dismissal of Dean Smith.
Brandon Williams was never going to get much game time at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles available in that spot, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka plays basically every game at right-back. His debut on loan at Norwich came in a superb 6-0 victory against Bournemouth in the League Cup. He has made six Premier League appearances for the Canaries and lost five of those, being booked twice.
Wonderkid Tahith Chong is currently on loan at Birmingham and recorded two assists in a 5-0 victory over Luton. He has made 13 appearances so far for the team.
