Ian Wright made his feelings clear on Gabriel Jesus before Mikel Arteta's transfer U-turn

Ian Wright is a huge fan of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, yet Mikel Arteta may part company with the Brazilian.

The former Manchester City forward hasn't lived up to the expectations that came attached when arriving at the Emirates in July 2022 for a hefty £45million, and he has been tipped to leave in recent weeks.

The Gunners have failed on two consecutive occasions to pip Jesus' former club City to the Premier League trophy, with the marksman only contributing 15 league goals to these charges.

Wright once heaped praise on Jesus, then 19 and at Man City, for his decision-making and running in behind. He told BT Sport in 2017, after the striker's goal and assist in a 4-0 win against West Ham: "When you watch the way he played, it was very mature, the choices he made, the runs he made.

The Gunners icon added: "I would like to think yes, in the end, I learned how to do it, but at 19, he is doing stuff I was doing when I was in my prime at 28!"

Jesus, now 27, has been plagued by injuries during his time at Arsenal and is often relegated to the bench, with £65million man from Chelsea, Kai Havertz, leading the line.

In January, Ivan Toney's name cropped up as a potential Arsenal recruit, another indication that Jesus was becoming less and less integral to the first team.

Strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, though unlikely signings due to their substantial price tags, have now been linked with a move to the Emirates.

Should Arteta look to sell Jesus this summer then he won't be short of suitors, with Saudi Pro League sides interested in snapping him up, as reported by football.london.
