Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Champions League final on Saturday at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev in a night which saw European Cup records tumble.
Madrid clinched the trophy for a third successive year and for the fourth time in the past five seasons as they overcame Jurgen Klopp's side in the Ukrainian capital.
The Spanish giants took the lead through Karim Benzema when Loris Karius' disastrous error gifted Madrid's opening goal five minutes into the second half.
After Sadio Mane equalised for Liverpool substitute Gareth Bale responded with two goals off the bench, the first a stunning overhead kick, to seal victory for Madrid.
In the process Bale became the first player ever to score twice as a substitute in a European Cup final in the 63-year history of the competition.
His first, scored two minutes and two seconds following his introduction, was the second-fastest goal by a substitute in a final behind Lars Ricken's effort for Borussia Dortmund against Juventus in 1997.
Zinedine Zidane became only the third manager to win the competition on three occasions, joining Bob Paisley (Liverpool) and Carlo Ancelotti (AC Milan twice, Real Madrid once).
The Frenchman is also the first manager to win it three straight times. Madrid won five straight between 1955-60 but had different managers in charge - Jose Villalonga Llorente (twice), Luis Carniglia (twice) and Miguel Munoz.
Ajax (1971-73) and Bayern Munich (1974-76) also won three straight European Cups but both sides changed their managers during the run.
Zidane's remarkable success since taking over at Madrid in January 2016 has seen the former Los Blancos player win nine trophies in total.
The manager's haul (three Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups, two European Super Cups, one Spanish Super Cup and one La Liga title) means he wins a trophy on average every 16.5 matches.
In contrast, his Liverpool counterpart Klopp has yet to win any silverware since taking the reigns at Anfield in October 2015.
The German has lost six of his seven finals as manager during spells at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool - twice in the DFB-Pokal, twice in the Champions League, once in the League Cup and once in the Europa League.
The result means English teams have now lost seven straight times to Spanish sides in European finals across the Champions League and Europa League.
Klopp's starting XI had the youngest average age, 26 years and 170 days, of a Champions League final side since his Borussia Dortmund team were beaten by Bayern Munich in 2013.
At 19 years old, Trent Alexander-Arnold became only the third English teenager to start a European Cup final, after Manchester United's Brian Kidd in 1968 and Nottingham Forest's Gary Mills in 1980.
Meanwhile Karius, who endured a chastening evening on Saturday, made more errors leading to goals during the final (two) than in his previous 32 appearances for Liverpool this season.
Sadio Mane's equaliser, while insignificant in the outcome of the match, saw Liverpool become the first side ever to have three players score double figures during a European Cup campaign.
The Senegalese's goal joined Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino on 10 goals each this Champions League season, he also became the first African to net in a final since Didier Drogba for Chelsea against Bayern Munich in 2012.
