FIFA president Gianni Infantino has officially confirmed Iran’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, putting an end to doubts fueled by geopolitical tensions

Speaking during a visit to the Iranian national team’s training camp near Antalya, Infantino made it clear that football would prevail despite concerns surrounding the tournament, which will be largely hosted in the United States.

The issue had gained attention due to diplomatic tensions in the Middle East and reported reservations from Donald Trump regarding Iran’s presence. However, FIFA has taken a firm stance, prioritizing sporting merit above all. Iran secured its qualification on the pitch, and the governing body has no intention of revisiting that achievement.

Infantino reiterated FIFA’s core philosophy, stating: “We don’t do politics because we are not politicians. Our business is football… Iran has qualified for the World Cup and will participate.” He also assured full support for the team’s preparations, emphasizing his personal commitment to ensuring that everything runs smoothly for the Iranian squad ahead of the tournament.
