Inter 1-2 Udinese: Nerazzurri suffer frustrating comeback at home

  /  R47

While Inter played some nice football in the early stages, Udinese showed intent of their own with Jakub Piotrowski seeing a shot saved before Vakoun Bayo fired wide.

Match Report

There was still a slice of luck for the visitors with Nicolò Bertola’s deflection on Alessandro Bastoni’s shot, sending the ball into his goalkeeper Răzvan Sava’s arms.

Inter refused to be denied and opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when a swift move culminated in Marcus Thuram bringing the ball down in the crowded box and teeing up Denzel Dumfries for a simple finish.

Inter slowed down after going ahead though, and Dumfries was adjudged to have handled Bertola’s header following a cleverly worked free-kick, before Keinan Davis composedly sent Yann Sommer the wrong way to convert the ensuing penalty. Le Zebrette looked increasingly confident after drawing level and deservedly went ahead in the 40th minute.

When Arthur Atta received the ball from Davis, the Frenchman capitalised on Yann Bisseck backing off him by coolly finding the bottom corner for his first Serie A goal.

Inter offered little in the first half’s latter stages, but Nicolò Barella almost raced behind within seconds of the restart before being halted by Oumar Solet. Thuram then headed over, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu shot agonisingly wide as the pressure built. That pressure appeared to have told mere seconds later, but Thuram strayed offside before laying the ball off for Federico Dimarco’s emphatic strike.

Davis gave his side occasional respite from Inter’s relentless efforts, providing solo bursts forward and smashing a shot wide at the end of one of those. However, there were still nervy moments, with three Nerazzurri shots in quick succession being denied before Barella sent his shot over.

Inspired by Solet’s herculean efforts, Udinese continued to repel the increasingly frustrated Nerazzurri to secure just the third win from their 11 away Serie A matches in 2025, while making it three competitive matches unbeaten to start this term.

They also inflicted a defeat that stands as a stark contrast to Inter’s 5-0 opening-day victory over Torino – the Nerazzurri’s first at home to Udinese since December 2017.
