Inter Miami coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino has revealed that Lionel Messi is 'reaching an important physical limit', with his eagerly-anticipated MLS debut rapidly approaching.
Messi has made a superb start at Inter Miami, helping the club to win their first ever trophy in the Leagues Cup, while they have also progressed to the final of the US Open Cup.
36-year-old Messi has already made eight appearances since joining Inter Miami last month and has played over 700 minutes.
It is anticipated that Messi will be able to make his MLS debut away to New York Red Bulls on Sunday, but Martino says that the star is struggling a little physically and hinted that he may have to be rested if necessary.
Martino said: 'Both Messi and many other players are reaching an important physical limit and from today we will evaluate how we approach the next three games,' said Martino.
'At some point, Messi should stop to recover because playing every three or four days is a lot.
'But, as long as he doesn't tell me anything, he will stay on the pitch. You know how he is and how he likes to play.'
Messi has adapted quickly at Inter Miami, having already found the net on ten occasions, while he has provided three assists.
He played a key part as Inter Miami drew 3-3 against Cincinatti in the semi-finals of the US Open Cup by providing two assists before converting his penalty in the shoot-out.
With Inter Miami having a packed schedule it seems likely that Messi's minutes will have to be managed carefully this season, especially given his age.
However, given his quality and the fact that he has already had a huge influence on the team, it will be very difficult to leave Messi out.

Before his arrival, Inter Miami did not beat anyone and suffered to overcome the midfield line. With him at the club, the team became Leagues Cup champion (the first title in the club's history) and staged crazy comebacks. In a matter of 1 month, being 36 years old, he changed the mindset and competitive spirit of an entire franchise. THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.
