According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, after leaving Al-Ahli, Mahrez is offering himself to Serie A clubs, but it remains uncertain whether any team can make room for him.
Mahrez, 35, is a right winger who habitually cuts inside onto his left foot. His skill and achievements are beyond doubt. The current issue is not his résumé, but whether he can fit into a team's system.
No Serie A club is currently confirmed to be close to signing Riyad Mahrez. The Italian teams most often linked with him in reports are Milan and Juventus, but any move would likely depend on Al-Ahli’s stance, Mahrez’s wage demands, and whether he is willing to return to Europe.
According to the report’s analysis, there are very few potential suitors. Roma are looking for an attacker; the report mentions their interest in Greenwood, but the team’s right flank is crowded, Dybala’s contract extension has been finalized, and Matías Soulé can also play a similar role.
Meanwhile, Juventus have reached a settlement agreement with UEFA, and their transfer spending is under strict control; only if a forward leaves—such as through Openda's transfer—would they be able to make room for Mahrez as a replacement for Chico Conceição under Spalletti.
Inter is not restricted by a settlement agreement, and Sporting Director Marotta has always been adept at seizing opportunities to sign free agents. However, the Nerazzurri's transfer focus is on other positions, namely Halilović as a replacement for Dumfries and a defender. There are currently no clear indications that any attacking players will leave.
The report points out that Como may need an experienced player to help with their European campaign, especially if Morata leaves. However, Fàbregas and the club prefer to sign younger players, and Mahrez is only an initial idea for them.
Milan's situation is similar: Amorim is reportedly planning to build the team around Nkunku, Pulisic, and Gonçalo Ramos up front, while Leão's future remains uncertain. Napoli, on the other hand, needs to streamline its bloated 47-man squad, which includes redundant wingers.
In short, Mahrez is currently a free agent and is interested in joining, but, at least in Serie A, it will be difficult for him to find a clear opportunity.
