Jack Wilshere is reportedly set to leave Norwich after the club decided to not consider their current interim manager for the permanent job.
The former Arsenal midfielder has been in charge at Carrow Road ever since Johannes Hoff Thorup was sacked.
Wilshere oversaw the final two games of the season as Norwich finished the campaign in 13th.
With Norwich deciding to look for an external candidate to take over as manager on a permanent basis, Wilshere has decided to leave the club according to The Athletic.
'He’s a great coach and he’s going to be a fantastic head coach but that’s not going to be here at this particular moment in time,' Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper told the BBC.
'Our search is focused externally.'
Wilshere joined Norwich from Arsenal as first team coach last October. He had previously served as the Gunners' U18s head coach.
During his two games in charge, Wilshere guided Norwich to a goalless draw with Middlesbrough and a 4-2 win over Cardiff.
His old Arsenal team-mate, Aaron Ramsey, was in the opposite dugout against the Welsh side, serving in his own interim role.
Knapper said the decision not to turn to Wilshere was to avoid getting 'wrapped up in emotion.'
'He's a great coach and will be a fantastic head coach, but that's not going to be here at this particular moment in time,' said Knapper.
'Naturally he's disappointed. He's super-ambitious, and he should be, but for where we are right now and the context, we're focussing externally.
'The emotional part, the romantic part of me would love to make that decision but my job is to not get wrapped up in emotion and to make cool, objective decisions.'
In his playing days, Wilshere played over 150 times for Arsenal while earning 34 caps for England.
Upon retiring in 2022, the midfielder rejoined Arsenal in a coaching capacity in their youth structure.
