Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane savage Mikel Arteta's 'robotic' tactics

Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have slammed Mikel Arteta's tactics after Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Liverpool.

Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal of the game for Liverpool with a superb free-kick in the 83rd minute but afterwards there was much focus on Arsenal's performance.

United legend Keane suggested that Arteta's team were somewhat 'robotic' in their display and indicated that they are over-reliant on set-pieces.

Keane said: 'I think when they've got the defensive record that they have and they're great at set-pieces, we've got to give Arsenal credit for that. If you're just dependent on that all the time and you come to Liverpool away. It's hard to score at Liverpool. Do something a little bit different.

'Rice taking corners, they're taking ages. You're looking at Arsenal, do something off the cuff. Do something quickly. There was a bit of rushing towards the end when they were chasing a goal. Going forward they're a bit robotic. You have to find something else.'

Liverpool haven't always been at their best in the early stages of the season but Arne Slot's side have won all three of their Premier League matches so far.

Keane said: 'Sometimes you don't get what you deserve in this game, it's about finding a way to win football matches.'

'We've been critical of Liverpool but at the end of the game they must be thinking, we're winning. You found a way to win and that' the sign of a really top team.'

Carragher, meanwhile, claimed that 'nothing has changed' with regards to Arsenal's performances.

Carragher said: 'You bring Zubimendi in, Eze's come in. It's only three games but the two away games that we've seen Arsenal this season, nothing has changed.

'Heavily reliant on set-pieces, don't create anything in open play and are the best team in Europe for me defensively.'

Arsenal started their season with a 1-0 win away to Manchester United and followed that up with a 5-0 thrashing of Leeds.

However, they will be disappointed not to have found the net at Anfield and only had one shot on target compared to Liverpool's three.

Arsenal have been heavily active in the transfer market this summer as they look to end their lengthy wait to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners have brought in VIktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

They are also set to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie on an initial loan deal ahead of a £42million permanent move next summer.
